Master's Project or Synthesis Proposal

Please complete this form to request approval of a master's project or a doctoral synthesis proposal.

Enrollment Request
Spring/Fall
Describe the research area that the research will be conducted in. This should provide a computer scientist from a different CS sub-field with an idea of what the research area is.
Describe the question or problem that you aim to address with your research.
Describe what it is that you will do for the synthesis project. What methods will you propose or implement? What will you prove? How will you prove it? Give as much detail as possible.
If the proposed method does not perform well, or the proposed proof approach does not yield a proof, what are the criteria for completing the synthesis project? For example, if the research is empirical, you might propose explaining and reporting negative results. Note that completing a synthesis project should require conducting a semester of research, but does not require the research to yield positive results.
Provide a list of milestones and the dates by which they should be achieved. Provide as much detail as possible. For example, you might specify a date to provide an initial implementation, a date to provide initial plots, a date to provide a draft of a write-up, etc.
Describe how the synthesis will be evaluated, for example, based on a final written report.
