CS Departmental Honors Admission Application Form

CS Departmental Honors - Admissions


To apply for CS Departmental Honors, students must satisfy the eligibility criteria listed below.

  • The student must have an overall GPA of 3.4 or higher earned after one fulltime semester of UMass Amherst coursework.
  • CS BS students starting in Fall 2023 or later must have completed CICS 210, COMPSCI 240, COMPSCI 250, and either (COMPSCI 220 or COMPSCI 230). Students starting prior to Fall 2023 can satisfy these criteria or the alternative criteria of taking COMPSCI 220, COMPSCI 230, COMPSCI 240, and COMPSCI 250.
  • CS BA students starting in Fall 2023 or later must have completed CICS 210 and three courses from the list (COMPSCI 220, COMPSCI 230, COMPSCI 240, COMPSCI 250). Students starting prior to Fall 2023 do not need to satisfy the CICS 210 requirement.
  • INFO BS students starting in Fall 2023 or later must have completed CICS 210 and INFO 248. Students starting prior to Fall 2023 can satisfy these criteria or the alternative criteria of taking (INFO 150 or COMPSCI 250), (COMPSCI 186 or COMPSCI 187), INFO 203, and INFO 248.

We suggest that students apply in the fall of their junior year. Interested students who are already CICS Honors students can use the form below to apply for admission to the CS Departmental Honors track (make sure to complete all fields marked with *). Students not currently in the Honors College who wish to complete departmental honors only (no general studies) need to apply directly to CHC for admission. Any questions about the Departmental Honors track or the admission process can be sent to askCSHonors@cs.umass.edu.

Note that all students are conditionally admitted to the DH track pending the submission of their 499Y contract and semester plan.
