MS Field Experience Concentration Pre-Application

CICS and the MS program has a new concentration, the Field Experience Concentration. This new course of study students are able to embark on internships, or CPT, after ONE-semester physically at UMass Amherst, instead of two. Please refer to the email regarding the announcement of the concentration for additional details.

Students in the Field Experience Concentration ARE REQUIRED to take TWO pre-approved concentration courses, one in Systems and one in AI, before their internship or CPT experiences, as well as physically be in the US for one semester.  AFTER the Field Experience students must enroll in a class that has a major project component such as 696, 696DS, 6969E, 682, 701, and others from a determine list.

POST Internship Course
I understand that I MUST take a project based course AFTER my internship. Here are a list of project based courses that fulfill the Field Experience Concentration: -ANY CS independent study such as CS 696, CS 696DS, CS 596, CS 596E -CS 701: Masters Project -COMPSCI 520: Theory & Practice of Software Engineering -COMPSCI 528: Mobile & Ubiquitous Computing -COMPSCI 532: Systems for Data Science -COMPSCI 571: Data Visualization & Exploration -COMPSCI 576: Game Programming -COMPSCI 621: Advanced Software Engineering: Analysis and Evaluation -COMPSCI 645: Database Design & Implementation -COMPSCI 646: Information Retrieval -COMPSCI 682: Neural Networks -COMPSCI 685: Advanced Natural Language Processing -STAT 535: Statistical Computing (ONLY when a project is part of the course, check the syllabus for each offering of this course) New courses are added to this list quite frequently. I understand that I MUST take a project based course AFTER completing my internship.
International students
International students, you MUST complete a project based course to complete the Field Experience Concentration. If you do not complete a project based course POST internship there could be visa consequences. I UNDERSTAND THAT NOT COMPLETING A PROJECT BASED COURSE COULD RESULT IN VISA COMPLICATIONS.
